Hi, my name is Joseph Montgomery, but I go by Joe. I grew up in Ypsilanti, Michigan, where I continue to live and work.
I am a graduate assistant at Eastern Michigan University, working towards an MA in Literature and a Graduate Certificate in Teaching of Writing. My research often involves an intersection of literary and composition studies. My literary interests include Middle English, Romantic, and Victorian British literature, as well as science fiction and fantasy. My primary theoretical approaches include Marxism, feminism, posthumanism, and ecocriticism. I currently teach first-year writing and assist in upper-level literature classes, and I have several years of experience consulting in a writing center. My professional and scholarly work is informed by a passion for and commitment to human rights, social justice, egalitarianism, and ecological sustainability. In addition to the things that normally fall under the umbrella of English studies, I enjoy learning about history, physics, biology, chemistry, politics, information and network studies, urban design, and transportation.
When I’m not reading, writing, or teaching, I’m usually gardening or cooking or spending time with my wife and two sons. We share our home and yard with a number of non-human actors, including two cats, four chickens, and a rabbit.
